...what's it all about?

Advocacy is about joining with parents, teachers, principals and trustees of your Regional School District, with people in your community, and with caring people all over Canada to advocate for the continuation and improvement of music programs, many of which are now threatened.

Advocacy is about the music education program in your school and what you can do to promote it and develop respect for it. It is about emergency action you can take if your music program is being threatened.

Advocacy is about why music is taught as an essential element of the school curriculum and how beneficial it is to young people.

Advocacy is about your role as an advocate for music education in your school and community.

NSMEA is committed to ongoing advocacy in music education. As an organization it is a member of the Coalition for music education in Canada, and speaks on behalf of all music educators in nova Scotia at the provincial and local levels. Advocacy materials including an advocacy kit, a video and brochures, are available through NSMEA.

We've collected some sites from around the world that focus on advocacy - what they're doing, and what you can do. If you know of sites that can be of benefit to music educators, please e-mail the URL to us. We'll post it here:
