Support Staff Position

The Nova Scotia Teachers Union has a Support Staff position available for an Information Technology Administrator.

Description:

The Information Technology Administrator will provide network and workstation support; network administration; monitor system performance, and provide front line support when dealing with employees.  The IT Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day functionality of all computing and network devices as well as systems development, customization and troubleshooting.  Our ideal candidate must be positive, outgoing, a “jack of all trades”, capable and enthusiastic about learning on demand.  The ideal candidate is self-motivated and can work in a team.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Computer and Technology Knowledge, including Windows, Apple OS, hardware, networking software, networking hardware, networking security, servers, applications, software;
  • Network, PC, laptop and server management and maintenance;
  • Provide day-to-day support and troubleshooting for all computers and servers;
  • Provide technical support to employees;
  • Provide application/process training;
  • Provide technical support for all hardware and software; and
  • Provide one-on-one and group user training for all software packages, for new employees and as part of a continuing education for current employees.

Qualifications:

Completion of college, vocational/technical training or university degree.  Minimum four years of related technical experience is required.  Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical people, strong in a wide breadth of technical concepts, self-starter and able to work independently while still being part of a team.  Networking experience, including Network troubleshooting, design and maintenance.  Strong knowledge of Network hardware (switches, network cabling, wireless routers).  Experience in PC/Server hardware configuration and troubleshooting.
