At
the closing provincial executive meeting of the 2001 Annual Council,
NSTU Executive Director, Jim MacKay announced he would retire from the
Union effective October 2001.
MacKay joined the NSTU
professional staff in August 1987 after 12 years as Director, Staff
Development Services, with the Prince Edward Island Teachers Federation.
During his time with
the NSTU, he has served as Coordinator, Staff Development Services,
Assistant Executive Director, and Acting Executive Director. He has
been Executive Director since December 1994.
He is the author of a series of articles on school-based staff development.
MacKays expertise in organizational development, the change process
and the planning process have resulted in numerous invitations to speak
at conferences at both the national and international level.
In addition to his service in teacher organizations, MacKay was a teacher
for nine years in Nova Scotia (health and physical education). He has
also served as an Administrative Assistant, Department of Physical Education
and Recreation, Acadia University and as Executive Assistant to the
Honourable Harold Huskilson, former Minister of Social Services for
